Shanghai Premier League

Amigo’s and Amiga’s,

What an interesting weekend it was !  I have never had so many text message in my life from players asking whether the games are still on ? Starting from Saturday afternoon going on well after mid-night and started again 6.50 AM on Sunday (yamada-san). Despite the typhoon in Puxi we played the games and saw all teams in action !

Vlis – Dulwich 0-8
I watched the first 15 minutes and saw two equal teams but Dulwich took the lead through a super shot from a long long distance. When I returned to see the second game I saw several Belgium friends drinking piles of beer so I thought they were celebrating their victory ! Quickly I found out they were drinking their sorrow’s away after their 0-8 defeat. Dulwich coach John Hinde was a relieved man as he came under severe pressure after two BIG back to back defeats so this victory will give him some breathing space for at least one more week..

Bulls – Galacticos 3-3 (Galacticos win 6-5 on penalties)
Whenever the Bulls are playing there will be a lot of goals, this game was no exception ! A real cup tie with both team going for the win. Galacticos was down 0-2 at half time but fought their way back and took the lead 3-2 with 10 minutes to go. The Bulls kept on fighting as usual and managed to get the draw 3-3 so it was up to penalties! Everybody seemed to find it easy to find the net until………Nico’s father stepped up to take the final penalty. Not sure what he was thinking but maybe the presence of his wife and son must have made him feel under enormous pressure as his soft kick was an easy target for the happy Galacticos Goalie ! Bilgin was unlucky again and I suggested him to go to a Chinese temple to turn the luck around !

E-Rouge – Lions 1-1 (Lions win 4-2 on penalties)
This game was a battle of the middle field and indeed the battle was hard but fair. Both teams didn’t create a lot of changes and at the end the draw was the correct result. Nicolas the Lions goalie stopped a penalty and after the French player missed the fourth penalty it was game over too bad as I was number 5 in the penalty line up !

Hawks – Japan 3-1
There was an invasion of Japanese players on the field and for a moment I thought we are playing in Tokyo instead of Green City . The Hawks are the team to beat this season but they played very well resulting in several goal scoring opportunities. In the end they were 3-0 leading and Japan started to fight back 3-1 with 10 minutes to go. Japan still had two golden opportunities to score but couldn’t finish it.

So the semi cup finals will be played on May 17th
Dulwich – Galacticos and
Lions – Hawks

This Sunday march 29 we have league games planned and the weather will be good clear sky and 15 degrees !

10.00 AM E-Rouge – Dulwich

Amigo’s and Amiga’s,

Spring is arriving in Shanghai and  that makes life beautiful. Nothing better than when you wake up and open the curtains you see a blue sky and to have a football game with your friends and an ice cold beer after the game, what else you can wish for on a Sunday ?

Dulwich – Lions 0-8  The lions are getting back to their old form. Headed by three goals of Big Michael in the first half the confused the Dulwich players the second half by taking him off the field. His replacement Bibi, scored a hat trick in 10 minutes leaving the Dulwich players puzzled.

E-Rouge – Bulls 4-3 Before the game Bilgin told the French players that they were lucky today as Nico their top scorer was not playing, in the end that might have turned out to be true….! First half was equal 1-1, but the second half was a real SPL battle with both teams dying for a win. First 2-1 and 3-1 for E-rouge, but as usual the Bulls were fighting back big time and brought the game level 3-3. In the last 10 minutes the E-Rouge scored the winner.

Vlis-Galacticos 4-4 – Its an understatement to say that it was an open game with both teams playing attacking football. The belgiums were in the lead most of the game, but the final score game of the foot of Ned Kelly. Where are the days he scored 13 goals in one game ??

This sunday we have the SPL cup quarter finals every team will play so ps don’t miss the action as we have four games ps note the changed starting times and make sure the games start on time as otherwise the last game will finish in the dark !!

 9.30  AM Vlis – Dulwich

11.15 AM Galacticos – Bulls

13.00 PM Lions – E-Rouge

15.00 PM Hawks – Japan

Again pay attention on the starting time (Ned….!!) and if the game end in a draw 5 penalties will decide the winner !

The weather forecast calls for higher temperatures but rain as well so in case of cancellation you will get a notice latest by Saturday 5PM.

Let there be a lot of surprises at the SPL Cup quarter finals ! Cheers Freek SPL President on behalf of the SPL committee !

Amigo's and Amiga's,

Yesterday we held the highest cup draw in the world!
As guests of Yamada-san in the Shanghai Financial Tower we were able to rise to 492m above ground level to harass innocent bystanders to draw our cup games.
It's not every soccer league who can say that...

To find out who you will be playing, check our cup draw video here...

Dear Amigo’s and Amiga’s,

Finally we could play again ! It was good to see everybody back on the pitch !

Japan – Galacticos 5-0
Ned’s birthday appeared too much to handle as some of the teammate’s were still celebrating on sunday. In the end they played a good friendly game and actually a mixed japan/galacticos team would be a true league contender…..!

E-rouge – Lions 0-3
Must admit that there were a lot of french players on the pitch and allthough both teams were playing hard there was no need for cards as the spirit was fair. E-Rouge had a lot of ball possession but was lacking the finishing touch, the lions however had more goal threatening chances and converted three goals to put them solid in the second place of the league.

Hawks – Dulwich 7-0
Interesting to see that most of the Hawks player went to the Carnival party in Latina ’s and dropped one by one to the field. On the pitch they were still in the party mood and made a real goal fiesta !

This coming Sunday 15 march we will have league games and the weather outlook is good, blue sky yes blue sky and 12 degrees !

10 AM Lions – Dulwich

12PM E-rouge – Bulls

14PM Galacticos – Vlis

Let the spring arrive ! See you all Sunday / Cheers Freek / SPL President on behalf of the SPL Committee !

...it has to swim three times.
Once in water
Once in butter
Once in wine

Dear Friends,

After two consecutive cancellations of our Sunday game, we either play this Sunday or we swim in wine ! Looking at the weather forecast we are going to play as the calls are for clear skies and about 10 degrees. It will be interesting to see what the effect of the long break was on the teams, don’t dare to make predictions but will report the high’s and low’s of next week games.

To the captains (especially Ned) please take a look at the NEW Schedule made by Danny. The cup tie has been removed to March 15 and the draw will be done this coming Monday at the top of the Financial Tower .

So one more time the schedule for March 8 !

10 AM Japan Galacticos
12 PM E-Rouge – Lions
14 PM Hawks – Dulwich

Ps The Vikings like to play a friendly vs one of our teams on Saturday / ps contact John Poulsen if you are interested
