Amigo’s and Amiga’s,
First of all we would like to express our heartfelt sympathy for all of our Dutch friends in the aftermath of what should have been a fun orange fest but turned into drama.
About SPL now
What a difference one weekend can make. Actually I was in Singapore watching my son participate in an International Youth Tournament. Its fun to see 500 little kids running after a ball and it also made me believe that the future of the SPL is guaranteed by so many young talents. On Sunday I picked up the results of the SPL games as well stories were floating around about a deadly swine virus spreading around. China has by far the largest pig population in the world so lets cross our fingers this virus will stay far away and we can finish our exciting season without any disruption !
Galacticos – Bulls 2-3
A desperate Bilgin has been going to the temple every morning to turn around the bad luck for the bulls, finally his prayers were heard and they sealed a victory with three goals of Nico who is going for the top scorer award again this year. Galacticos missed their skipper Ned who got a last minute call to join the Shooters youth team as coach in Singapore !
E-Rouge – Vlis 3-0
The French controlled most of the neighbour encounter. 1-0 first half and they added two more in the second half
Dulwich – Japan 1-4
First half the match was even and Japan took a 1-0 lead. Pep talk from Dulwich’s coach John Hinde resulted in an equalizer however the Dulwich legs started to get tired and the Japanese team kept on bringing on fresh legs…….in the end that was too much 1-4 !
Weather for this coming weekend is looking good twenty five degrees, two postponed games will be played, don’t miss the action !
12.00 PM Vlis – Galacticos
This is a key game for the honour of being at the bottom of our league / I am sure both teams want to fight there way out of the bottom by attacking football.
14.00 PM Japan – Lions.
Both teams would like to secure minimum the second spot in the SPL. Japan will have to win and Lions could settle with a draw.
Lets enjoy the long weekend (1st of May) and enjoy the games on Sunday / Cheers Freek / SPL President on behalf of the SPL Committee

Amigo’s and Amiga’s,
Last weekend we had a typical Shanghai experience. On Saturday the sky was blue and the temperature was hitting 25 degrees, the following morning it was raining and windy and temperature could barely reach 10 degrees. Japan and Lions held a friendly 5-5 and unfortunately the F1 took its toll again on the Galacticos as a few of their players disappeared the night before and didn’t come back ever since.
So we try again. Weather forecast calls fr sunshine and 23 degrees and we have a full program which ps come and watch and enjoy the Spring weather and for sure I can promise you a lot of goals and good games of football in Green City.
10.00 AM Galacticos – Bulls
Ned (Galacticos) promised to have his squad on time on the field and Bilgin (Bulls) said he targets nothing less but the second place in the league after their cup dreams came to an end.
12.00 PM E-Rouge – Vlis
“IL CLASSICO” brother countries they love to play against each other both team will go for the kill, so expect a thriller !
14.00 PM Dulwich – Japan
John’s team (Dulwich) finally got their winning mood back before the eastern break they will try to maintain it but not sure they can get over 55 Japanese players !!
We are getting to our final weeks of the competition so enjoy the games and the warm weather and of course the ice-cold beer(s) after the games !
Cheers Freek / SPL President / On behalf of the SPL Committee
For a very nice report on DULWICH - VLIS, pls download pdf here, courtesy of Dulwich (Guess Vlis wouldn't want to write anything about that game)
Amigo’s and Amiga’s,
The break was long and a lot of us were wondering what to do on Sunday’s without Football. Only positive point about not playing on Sunday is that you realize how much you miss the action and your friends. Most of us will be restless wandering around the house or hit the pub or going for a six hours massage. Last Sunday some of the SPL sport-fanatic’s, including myself and my son, participated in the jinqiao 8km run. Great event and maybe next year we will all participate to see who is fastest SPL runner or to see who is the slowest SPL runner !
The field is green and the temperatures are perfect 23 degrees this Sunday we have two interesting games :
12.00 Japan – Bulls
Both teams are in the top of our league and will aim at nothing less but the second spot. Let's see whether the break brought back the luck to Bilgin.
14.00 E-Rouge – Galacticos
Despite the formula 1 we can expect a full Galacticos squad this time as Lewis Hamilton went from Hero to Zero….so no need to wast money and time on the F1. A win for E-Rouge will put them on top of Dulwich.
Enjoy spring and the games ! Cheers Freek SPL President / On behalf of the SPL Committee
Amigo’s and Amiga’s,
After last Sunday’s stunning games we are in for a break first the Qinming festival and next week the Easter Holiday . This is the time that teams can lick their wounds from the tough games during the winter. The games were hard but fair and the playing conditions were not easy with chilling wind and several down pours on our heads and we might have lost some hairs along the way. Two weeks break means that the teams can fix up their legs, change their strategy, go on survival camps, or just relax in preparation of the final three months of our league !
Last Sunday we had three exciting games :
E-Rouge – Dulwich 4-4
First half it was 2-2 both teams were fighting hard for the win. Second half was more of the same, the French were technical more skilled but Dulwich didn’t want to give up. The French scored an easy goal after the break but a cross annex shot fm Cesar went straight into the top corner 3-3. Dulwich gave away a free kick and poor marking resulted in 4-3. Five minutes before the end the hard work of Dulwich was paid off by an awarded penalty.
Japan – Vlis 3-0
Belgium were happy with their new goalie as he saved them a lot of goals, bit short of players for this games Vlis considered the result as a good improvement and Japan was happy with the three points an are eyeing the second spot in the SPL.
Hawks – Galacticos 4-1
Could only catch the last part of the game, but noticed at least 30 chinese bookmakers watching the game, betting was active and there was a police car standbye as well. The game was interesting to watch as Galacticos really tried to go for the win and had ample of opportunities but failed to finish. Hawks were not playing their best especially the second half. A penalty awarded to Marcus caused a lot of commotion as in the eyes of the Galacticos players he dived but according to the Hawks he escaped the tackle in order not to break his leg. So for five minutes the tension was hot but once the game was over everybody shaked hands which is what we as SPL stands for.
19th of April we start again with two games only :
12.00 PM Japan – Bulls
14.00 PM E-Rouge- Galacticos
Lets predict the weather 25 degrees and a blue sky !!
Enjoy the break and see you all soon ! Cheers Freek SPL President / on behalf of the SPL Committee
